Sony: 'We won't tolerate lazy Wii to Move ports'

Michael Pachter may call it the Wii-HD, but Sony is launching a preemptive strike on publishers trying to simply port their existing Wii games to their upcoming Playstation Move peripheral.

It's a safe assumption that a large percentage of Wii developers can smell money on the horizon. Sony realizes it's inevitable that some Nintendo Wii titles could be a natural fit for their Move controller, but they're pledging to do everything possible to either disapprove lazy ports, or make them uniquely identifiable to the Playstation Network, a wise move given the PSN's current crop of quality, exclusive downloadable titles.

Speaking to Gamasutra, SCEA's publisher relations head Rob Dyer says: "We'll do everything we can, whether it's up-res, add trophies, and do things and make it network-only so you don't see it on a disc, but at the same time, we don't have to approve it if we don't want to go down that path."

This kind of philosophy, in our opinion, is admirable and also necessary right now with Sony's PSP and inevitable PSP2 platforms.
