With the NGP (aka PSP2) on the horizon it is time for the Sony's original foray into the handheld console gaming arena to receive a price cut. The PSP-3000 will officially be $40 cheaper and they've release a new commercial touting the cut.
While the PSP has come in second place to the Nintendo DS, it has still had a very successful run with nearly 68 million units sold worldwide. The move to a $129.99 price puts it on par with the Nintendo DS Lite and should obviously result in an uptick in sales. The "Entertainment Packs" will also get a price drop down to $159.99.
"The PSP system set the standard for complete portable entertainment and continues to be the premiere destination for gamers on-the-go," said Tim Bender, Senior Vice President, Sales, SCEA. "Nearly six years after its initial launch, demand for the PSP remains strong. This new price point enables us to broaden the PSP platform to a larger group of consumers who are looking for best-in-class handheld entertainment."
Those picking up a new PSP or that already own a PSP will also find a number of new games that join the "Favorites" ($9.99) and "Greatest Hits" ($19.99) budget title line-up.

- Assassin's Creed Bloodlines (Ubisoft)
