According to a report today from VG 24/7, Sony UK managing director Fergal Gara said when it comes to the tech of the PlayStation 4 compared to the Xbox One it comes down to how publishers and developers feel creating games on the next-gen consoles.
And so far, Gara said, publishers have reacted kindly to the PS4.
“Probably the biggest barometer I would pick out for where the tech is, is the feedback from publishers –– both in-house and out-of-house –– because they tell us it’s a dream to develop for,” Gara said.
Among the positive comments, Gara said the way the PS4 is configured and the consoles architecture allows for developers to avoid hitting the “glass ceiling” in terms of creating titles.
“… If you look at the experiences coming out there on PlayStation 3 later this year –– I can pick out Beyond or Gran Turismo 6 –– they’re really pushing the envelope of what PS3 can do,” Gara said.
Because the “shackles are off” for developers, Gara said creating a great experience on the PS4 is far easier than before, and that developers feel “hugely liberated and inspired right now.”
The PS4 hits shelves in North America on Nov. 15, Europe on Nov. 29 and in Japan in February.
