The Sony PS4 was announced yesterday on Feb. 20, 2013, and its new vision of gaming has been made abundantly clear. Sony Computer Entertainment's CEO, Andrew House, describes the PS4 to be the "future of play." As quoted by Andrew House, "It's designed to make accessing the content gamers love easier than ever. It's conceived as the most personalized gaming experience available today." The Sony PS4 plans to usher in a new era in gaming where the player is the main focus and aims to provide an unprecedented level of customization to give each and every PS4 owner a different identity.
The two-hour long event showcased the new controller, "DualShock4," which features a touchpad in the center and the newly-added "Share button" designed to allow gamers to connect and sync their experiences to others via the push of a button. The codename, Orbis, did not remain attached to the system's official name and it is probably even more disappointing to gamers that the PS4 was not shown. Sony will most likely save that unveiling for the upcoming E3 event.
Game developers joined the stage to show us some of their new upcoming titles. Evolution Studios game director, Matt Southern, almost euphorically presented the game, "Drive Club". A concept that they've been waiting to create for close to a decade. Players will be immerse themselves to the point of actually owning an exact virtual counterpart of some of the most high-end cars in the real world today and racing them in real-time against other driving clubs.
Sucker Punch went on to show off its new entry into the "InFAMOUS" series, "Second Son." Guerilla Games brought us some explosive gameplay footage of their next FPS, "Killzone: Shadow Fall." Square Enix gave us a look at the new developing tools that would be used to create games for the next generation and announced that a new "Final Fantasy" will be in the works for PS4.
The night was packed with many other game previews and new and improved features of the PS4 finally putting to rest all the rumors about what we can expect. And what we can expect comes rather soon with the PS4 releasing for holidays 2013.
