Roadside Attractions will be releasing "Therese", a selection of this year's Toronto International Film Festival, domestically in the U.S. Sony Pictures announced this today, as they will be handling distribution of the film in such international territories as Germany, Latin America, and Scandinavia. The deal marks a partnership between Sony and Exclusive Media. Exclusive Media is a global filmed entertainment company which also operates through the Hammer and Spitfire labels, as well as a partnership with Cross Creek Pictures.
Charlie Stratton wrote and directed the film, which stars Elizabeth Olsen, Oscar Isaacs, Tom Felton and Jessica Lange. Based on Emile Zola's novel Therese Raquin, "Therese" is set in 1860's Paris. The title character was forced to marry her cousin. Feeling repressed, she has an affair, leading to unintended consequences.
Tom Felton's most high-profile role was as Draco Malfoy in the "Harry Potter" films. A sister of the famous Olsen Twins, Elizabeth Olsen made her first big acting splash in the festival darling "Martha Marcy May Marlene." She will next be seen in Spike Lee's remake of Chan-wook Park's "Oldboy", which is expected to hit theaters on October 27. Charlie Stratton got his showbiz start in television acting, before directing episodes for programs such as Revenge and Everwood. "Therese" marks his first feature film.
This year's Toronto International Film Festival wraps up on Sunday.
