Sony, Olympus announce new lenses as CP+ Photo Show opens for 2014

The CP+ Photo Trade Show opened for 2014 yesterday and runs through Sunday. Not surprisingly, manufacturers are using this venue as a place to launch new products, with many name brands, including Sigma, Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Sony, and Panasonic (among others) unveiling new products in the lead-up to the show.

Now, with all the new cameras, the lenses have been somewhat overlooked, until now.

First up: Olympus is launching a pair of new lenses for its mirrorless Micro Four Thirds mount that are designed for opposite ends of the focal range. First up: a 7-14mm (14-28 FF/film equivalent) f2.8 lens, which is the first lens of its kind for Olympus mirrorless cameras. Dust and splash proof, the 7-14 f2.8 M.ZUIKO is designed for professional usage in the toughest of environmental conditions. On the other end of the focal range comes the 300 f4 M.ZUIKO, which is also fully dust and splash-proof.

Now for the bad news: both lenses will only appear as mock-ups at CP+ and neither will hit stores until sometime in 2015.

For people who don't want to wait a year for a lens, there's the Sony FE 70-200 f4 OSS, which is designed to be compatible with full frame mirrorless, namely the A7. The lens is also designed to work on sub-frame mirrorless, too, where it will have the field of view equivalent to 105-300mm on FF/film. This new Sony lens will be dust and moisture resistant, though Sony doesn't go so far as to call it wet-proof like Olympus does.

The good news here: this lens will start shipping next month at a cost of about $1500.
