Sony hopes the PlayStation 4 will not launch at a price point of $599 (Photos)

Approaching the official reveal of the PlayStation 4, many gamers began questioning the possible price point for Sony's next-generation system. Although Sony's previous console, the PS3, had a launch price of $599 and $499, many gamers are hoping that Sony decides to release the PlayStation 4 at a lower price.

Sadly, at the PS4 reveal event, Sony decided not to reveal the launch price of the system. But, according to a report by Engadget on Feb. 21, it seems that Sony is hoping for a price point lower than $599. Sony PlayStation's US head Jack Tretton reveals that the PS4 is "still in development in terms of final specs and design."

Speaking of the final price for the system, it is simply stated that Sony hopes the PS4 will not cost $599 at launch. "When I think about the console, you open it up, you look at it, you certainly look at it when you insert a disc, but for most people, it's behind a cabinet or on a shelf somewhere and you spend all your time looking at the screen."

Since the final specifications and design for the PS4 has not been finalized, this is a clear explanation as to why these details were not shown at the recent PlayStation meeting. Hopefully we will receive further details at E3 in June.
