Sony flexible in regards to PlayStation 4 price

Sony is taking a pretty big step forward with the technology backing the next-generation PlayStation 4, but according to Sony Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida on Feb. 21, it isn’t limiting the company’s flexibility in terms of the console’s cost.

When asked if PlayStation was prepared to compete with their next-gen rivals and hit a more favorable price, Yoshida simply said that Sony’s decision to use custom AMD hardware, rather than their proprietary Cell architecture, has allowed them to save on production costs.

"The architecture choice we have made this time around has allowed us not to invest to create dedicated factories and conducting factories and things like that — so that helps in order for us to provide an affordable price to consumers."

While Sony has yet to offer us even a small hint at the cost of the next-generation console, it looks like the company understands that consumers are more cost-conscious than ever, and will make an effort to reduce costs to outsell their competitors.
