Sony explains why PSOne Classics have no set release dates

PSOnce Classics logo.

Ever since Sony announced PSOne Classics for the PSP and Playstation 3, new releases have been inconsistent and often appear suddenly without any prior announcements. Grace Chen, Senior Manager of the PlayStation Store, explain why this is the case on the comment section of the Playstation.Blog:

There are a variety of reasons that need to be considered when releasing PSone classics… code emulation and testing, licensing rights, music clearances, etc.

Although the process may not always be smooth, Sony has definitely been picking up the pace in 2009 with new PSOne Classics.

For those of you hating on the PS3, you are just impatient/spoiled brats.

The PS1 classics take time to get released, it can't just be rushed out the door, as Grace Chen stated.

Seriously, you haters need to remember, Sony is balancing the PSN, PSP, PSP GO, PS3 and PS2. So COOL YOUR JETS, and just chill the F out.

i hope sony realizes the cash mine there sitting on.
i mean if there not releasing some classics for licensing issues thats fine, but if there not doing it because they cant be stuffed.
well im not going to be a happy camper.
i mean seriously theres so many things sony could put up on the PSN store and i would buy instantly, a PS2 emulator for example.
i mean come on if a group of college students can get ps2 games working on PCs than surely sony one of the worlds largest electronic companys can get it working on ps3.
i mean seriously, a group of college students cant be more skilled than one of the worlds largest electronic companys, can they?
well, actually judging by the crappy ugly XMB, and also judging by the fact that every time sony releases a FW update it stuffs something up.
it looks like a group of college students are more skilled than one of the worlds largest electronic companys.
    how embarrassing!

Name - are you really that stupid? Sony have a truckload of things to take care of in their Playstation division from releasing new hardware and software to implementing firmware updates, working on HOME and updating the PSN every week. Then there's the fact that the Playstation division is only a moderate part of an electronic's company that covers everything from Blu - Ray players and movies to TV's to Laptops. Yet you think that PSone classics are going to be at the very front of their minds??? Are you retarded?

Why don't you see if a group of College students can run a company as big as Sony before you go saying they're smarter you dumb little troll.

Hey, I was the one that posed the question that Grace answered, I don't seem to think that it's as difficult as she states though, because the Japanese store has hundreds of titles for download, it's odd that the Japanese store would be so much better at coding and licensing games than the US store, I think they're just afraid that if real ps1 classics are released no one would buy their first party psn games, like in the Japanese store, where every top ten spot week in and out is taken up by a ps1 classic. If licensing was the real issue than why do companies that own ALL the license for their games (like Capcom for instance) not release sequels to games that have already been hits in the store? And pirates crack their psps and can emulate any ps1 game just by uploading the code. I think that Grace was nice to reply, but she doesn't have the whole picture, (or was told not to divulge it).

It's riduculous which games are chosen to be put on the store, they have Little mermaid Winnie the pooh and Ford racing and many other really silt titels that no one has ever heard of and I wouldnt be surprised if not one single person has downloaded it(seriously). AND WHO CARES ABOUT FFVII and MGS they are very flawed games. Tekken 3 is completely ignored even though when released it got higher review scores.
