Sony exec hints at PS4 announcement by E3 2013

As new information concerning Sony’s PlayStation 4 continues to emerge, it is only a matter of time before the PS4 is officially revealed. Sony’s vice president of Home Entertainment, Hiroshi Sakamoto, shared on Monday that a PS4 announcement should be coming very soon.

In an interview with Chilean website El Mercurio On-Line, Sakamoto was asked about Sony’s next-generation home console. He replied:

That’s still a big secret, but our friends at Sony PlayStation are getting prepared. For now, I can only say that we’re focused in the gaming event E3, set for this June. This announcement may be then, or possibly earlier in May.

…we expect [Sony] to deliver great news, but we must wait until May at least.

Considering Sakamoto doesn’t work for the PlayStation division, his statement should not be taken too literal, though the likelihood of a PS4 announcement prior or at E3 2013 seems probable if Sony is planning a late 2013 launch.

If a pre-E3 2013 announcement does occur in May, Sony will have to send out invitations to press by late-March or early April.

It is unlikely that anything relating to the PS4 will be announced or shared in February when Sony hosts its annual Destination PlayStation event for retailers. Last year a few PS3 games were revealed at the event, so you can expect some new PS3 or PS Vita game announcements next month.
