With "LittleBigPlanet 3" on the horizon, it's not surprising that Sony would want to put Sackboy in the limelight as much as possible. Earlier today, Sept 4, Sony announced a new and unique "LittleBigPlanet" adventure for the PlayStation Vita, Android, and iOS, "Run Sackboy! Run!". This free-to-play title will have players controlling Sackboy through a new kind of side-scrolling adventure.
Dubbed as a "platform-survival" game, "Run Sackboy! Run!" will have the lovable avatar escaping the creativity-sucking Negativitron across three different, yet very familiar "LittleBigPlanet" worlds. The game will utilize the Vita's touchpad, with gamers using tap and swipe gestures to keep Sackboy from getting pummeled by the "LittleBigPlanet 2" villain.
Rather than have an endgame in sight, players are tasked with surviving as long as possible. Along their speedy chase across Craftworld's three stages, Sackboy will collect bubbles which can be used to purchase costumes and upgrades. Costumes are more than just cosmetic pieces this time around, as they provide built-in score multipliers, making it easier to amp up higher scores and purchase much-needed upgrades.
The endless runner style means that anyone can jump in and take control, but only the most skilled and fastest fingered players will be able to reach higher scores and brag on the public leaderboard. Even with upgrades in place, "Run Sackboy! Run!" is bound to keep challenging players with new obstacles and blockades. Power-ups like the jet pack, magnet, and shield will give minor advantages when things get really hairy.
The "LittleBigPlanet" series has always been known for its creative platforming, so to see it dive into the realm of simplistic gaming such as an endless runner is a fun little twist. Seeing as how "Run Sackboy! Run!" is slated to launch in October, almost a month before "LittleBigPlanet 3", you can bet that this high-speed romp will come with some unlockable content for Sackboy's latest adventure.
