Sony president Jack Tretton call the yield in the production of the PS4 “incredible,” but the company didn’t want to risk any gamers going home empty handed come launch day.
“We can pre-sell every unit we can manufacture, and the good news is that production yields have been phenomenal,” Tretton said. “We’re going to work very hard to make sure that every consumer that wants one gets one.”
Reports have the number of pre-orders for the PS4 over a million units so far, although VG 24/7 reported last month that pre-orders made after Aug. 6 will not be guaranteed by launch.
The PS4 is set to hit shelves on Nov. 15 in the United States and in Europe on Nov. 29. Sony’s next-gen console will set back gamers $399.
