Joystiq reports that Sony confirmed today that the upcoming Playstation 4 launch title, “Drive Club,” has been delayed until 2014 to allow Evolution Studios the time to fully realize their vision for the title. This is a disappointing announcement as the team based racing game was not only set to be a launch title, it was also going to be one of the titles offered free of charge for PS+ members. Shuhei Yoshida, chief of Sony Worldwide Studios took to the Playstation blog to empathize with those dealing with the frustration of the delayed title, however, he went on to mention that it was to allow the studio to truly deliver a next generation racing title. He briefly went on to assure fans that they are still planning on offering it as a PS+ title when it does release and the PSN title “Contrast,” will take the place of Drive Club as one of the titles available for free at launch for PS+ subscribers.
Racing fans looking for their next-gen racing fix will now have to turn to Microsoft’s stellar Forza series and the upcoming Forza 5 to satisfy their itch as it will be the only racing game on any platform available at launch. Couple that with the recent news of the multi-platform title "Watch Dogs" also being delayed and the next generation of gaming has gotten off to a rocky start. While delays are always a frustrating aspect of gaming, remember it’s always better for a developer to spend a little more time and deliver a polished product rather than rushing an incomplete or buggy game in order to meet a certain release date. Were you looking forward to getting your hands behind the wheel of Drive Club? If so, let us know in the comments below and what games you plan on purchasing at launch now that the launch line up for both consoles have experienced some disappointing delays.
