Sony announces SLT A58 dSLR-like camera

Sony has just announced the latest member of its dSLR-like line of Alpha mount line of cameras: the SLT A58, which is billed as a replacement for both the A37 and A57 in a move that, according to Sony, will simplify its fast-growing lineup. Besides building on the past, the A58 also brings nome new features to the table.

So, what of the A58?

If there is any single highlight feature, it is the sensor: a 20Mpchip capable of doing ISO 16,000, which firmly places the A58 right amongst the best of night-shooting cameras. Additionally, the NEX-3N features the same noise reduction processing that is found in the full-frame A99.Needless to say, if the A58 is is half as good as the A99 at high ISO,it ill be very impressive, especially considering its APS-C chip.

As for other headline features, the A58, like its predecessors and brothers in the 'SLT' lineup, features Sony's exclusive translucent mirror technology, which allows for continual AF while in live view mode thanks to the light being able to hit both the main and AF sensors ay the same time. Speaking of viewing, the A58 gains an OLED viewfinder, a step up over its predecessors' LCD screens. AS for the AF system itself, it now consists of 15 points.

Have a hard time with framing your shots? No problem, the A58 can judge a scene and do all the work to crop for a perfect shot, no matter what the subject. Lastly, there's an all-new color mode, TRILUMINOS, which promises more vivid, accurate colors, all the more spectacular when the pictures are played back on a Sony Bravia TV.

Want one?

Looking to buy an A58 in the Cleveland area? Well, there's Cleveland-based Dodd Camera, with its downtown superstore. In addition, there are many smaller Cleveland metro area chain stores in the Cuyahoga County area, too. Dodd is an authorized Sony dealer. The camera will start shipping in April but unfortunately, price is still TBA.
