According to a report today from VG 24/7, Sony has reported that since the PlayStation 4 launch in mid-November the next-gen console has produced 800,000 gameplay broadcasts and 20 million minutes of streamed live gameplay using it’s “share” button.
In a post to the PlayStation blog, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe blog manager Fred Dutton said the platform holder is encouraged by the overwhelming response to one of the PS4 flagship features in the “share” button.
“Of course, it’s great to see such healthy numbers,” Dutton said, referring to Sony’s announcement last week that they’d eclipsed the 2 million sold mark with the PS4, “but even more heartening is seeing just how enthusiastic the response has been to one of the new systems banner features: the ‘share’ button.”
Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida said the company specifically designed the PS4 with the idea of gamers sharing their experiences, but the interest in the feature has “surpassed our wildest expectations.”
“We’re very excited to see gamers embrace live streaming from their PS4 system, and we look forward to seeing how PlayStation gamers advance social gaming in the coming years,” Yoshida said.
