'Sons of Anarchy' spoilers: Venus Van Dam returns for final season

In some very fun “Sons of Anarchy” spoilers for the final season of the show, Walton Goggins is returning to the show as the vivacious Venus Van Dam. The spoilers were broken by show runner Kurt Sutter himself on Wednesday via Twitter.

Goggins has said that he would love to play the role again, so Sutter’s announcement had to make the actor and his fans very happy. The role originated when Sutter told Goggins that he could never cast him because people wouldn’t be able to separate him from his role as Shane on “The Shield.” Goggins remarked that he could play a transgender person and Sutter called him over a year later to see if he was serious about that.

In the character’s first appearance on “Sons of Anarchy,” Venus showed up to held the SAMCRO members blackmail someone. Venus also became very attracted to Tig. In season six, Venus showed back up to ask the Sons for help rescuing her son from her mother’s home. When the boys realize how bad her upbringing was, they agree to help her rescue her son. There is a chance Goggins’ gets some awards recognition for that role. Goggins also appears on the popular show “Justified.”

Walton Goggins and Kurt Sutter go back a long way. Sutter was a writer, director and producer for Shawn Ryan on the hugely popular FX series, “The Shield.” He used his experience there to get the chance to run his own show with “Sons of Anarchy” on the same network. Goggins played the popular Shane character on the show, a hero turned villain in the sprawling story.

Walton Goggins appeared the first time as Venus in season five and then had two more appearances in season six of the show. “Sons of Anarchy” will finish off its run after the seventh season, which will kick off in September.
