Cast and crew of FX’s “Sons of Anarchy” attended Comic Con 2014 and shared some insight on what fans can look forward as the series enters Season 7 for the “Final Ride.” Husband and wife team, Katey Sagal who plays Gemma and Kurt Sutter, the show’s creator, were there, reported Screen Crush on Aug. 4.
Sagal said the show picks up about 2 weeks after the Season 6 finale, “A Mother’s Work.” Gemma and Juice are still keeping their secret. She looks at him and all the club members as her sons. By the time we catch up with her, she will have put some machinations in play to protect her family and keep herself out of jail. Watch her interview at the top of this page.
Sutter said it has been his pattern to leave some loose threads “lying on the floor” at the end of every season. He doesn’t see Season 7 as being about wrapping up all the story threads but about following the hero’s journey in an organic way. He wouldn’t promise that the ending would be happy, only that it would be “satisfying.” As for Jax and his dark side, Sutter said this is the most proactive he’s been ever. Jax is not just living in the chaos but he is the inciter of it.
Director Paris Barclay said his biggest challenge filming this season is killing characters you love. It’s happened before and it was tough and it’s only going to get tougher, he said. Watching Clay and Tara go was hard but Barclay says the deaths this season will be tougher. Uh oh!
Theo Rossi who plays Juice also shared a few comments. He described his bond with Gemma as an “unholy alliance.” It makes the two of them keep one eye on the other at all times. He described Juice as being not all there mentally. Carrying the burden he is carrying is bound to make him come unhinged.
Season 7 will air on FX on Sept. 9. Tune in for the “Final Ride” of the “Sons of Anarchy.”
