While fans already knew that Drea de Matteo was promoted to series regular along with Jimmy Smits, a couple of other characters have been demoted to limited roles due to their other engagements. CCH Pounder and Kim Dickens will both only be in two to four episodes each because of other commitments. This means that there will likely be less of Jax as well since these two leading ladies were a big part of his life in the last season.
Peter Weller will have a more reoccurring role as Charles Barosky. He will also be directing a couple of episodes again this final season.
Kurt Sutter also explains that there will be new cast members joining for the final season, mainly law enforcement. However, he says that new law enforcement doesn't necessarily mean a new sheriff because that's already been done with Eli. How that will play out in the end is still undetermined.
So far, there is no official premiere date for the final season of "Sons of Anarchy" however, it will likely be in the fall, September specifically, as all the previous seasons have been.
