Last night's "Sons of Anarchy" season 6 finale "A Mother's Work", which aired on Tuesday, December 10, at 10/9 p.m. central on FX, was probably the most dramatic one to date. Hearts were pounding, nails were being chewed, and fans were holding their breath as they could not believe what was happening on the screen.
With Tara (Maggie Siff) and the boys on the run, Jax and his club were pretty much on high alert. With Wendy preparing to go to rehab, Gemma (Katey Sagal) tried to stay busy with chores around the house like washing dishes, while hoping that somebody would hear from Tara. Gemma is certain that Tara made a deal and that she might never see her grandchildren again.
Meanwhile Jax is making the final steps to pull the club out of the gun business and introduces the Mayans to August's people. Everything seems okay when the Sons leave. Nero stays behind to help load the weapons, when the Mayans open fire and kill all of August's people.
Nero had enough. He wants out and asks Gemma to go with him, which of course is not an option for her. Assuming that Nero is dumping her she gets ticked off and leaves.
Worried that Jax might kill Tara if he finds out that she is trying to make a deal, Eli (Rockmond Dunbar) and the DA want to talk to Jax to see where he stands and what he knows. The DA tells Jax that he is a husband, a father and a man before all of the club and violence issues in his life and he needs to take his place.
The club members of "Sons of Anarchy" are trying to figure out where Tara could be since she has no family in the area. Juice and Bobby decide to follow her lawyer and sure enough he leads them right to her, when he delivers the paperwork for the deal with the DA to Tara. She is willing to make the deal but wants to make sure the paperwork is right first.
Tara stays at the park a little longer to give the boys a chance to play before meeting up with the DA. But that time is all it took for Jax (Charlie Hunnam) to find her, thanks to Juice and Bobby.
Viewers could pretty much see Tara's heart stop for a second when she realized that Jax and the guys were coming up behind her. In her mind, her life was now over. She had no doubts that Jax would kill her to take the boys back.
Jax's fury is written all over his face when he first approaches Tara, who is holding on to Thomas for dear life but finally has to hand him over to Jax. "Please don't hurt me in front of the boys", she pleads with him.
She tries to reason with Jax, telling him that he always talked about breaking the cycle of violence but had not succeeded and if she didn't get the boys out now, they would suffer as well. But Jax is more understanding than could be expected: "I'm not going to hurt you. I'm not going to hurt them. You don't have to run, not anymore. Just be a good mother. Save our sons."
Jax decided to make a deal himself. He is willing to turn himself in and only himself, if Tara and the club get to walk away. He loves Tara and wants her to be safe. The DA accepts his deal, but gives him a little more time to spend with his sons.
Jax informs his club of the things that are about to happen. They are not happy but support him and promise to support Tara with whatever she wants to do. Only one issue remains: Juice and his betrayal. Before Jax leaves, he lets Juice know that he is aware of his betrayal.
Meanwhile Gemma is getting stoned at home, upset about the way things ended with Nero. Wayne finds her and tells her that something is about to happen. He doesn't have the details yet so all he knows is that Jax will be arrested within hours, apparently Tara made a deal.
Gemma tricks him and takes his truck. She heads to Jax's house where she runs into Tara. Tara saw it in Gemma's eyes, something just snapped, and Tara tries to get out of there. Eli is waiting outside for the DA and is of no help to Tara as Gemma starts to attack her. The two woman fight briefly before Gemma gets a hold of Tara and puts her head in the sink that still has the dish water in it. In her rage she grabs a carving fork and stabs Tara in the back of the head over and over again and kills her.
Juice looking for Gemma pulls up and together with Eli he hears the commotion inside the house. They rush in but it is too late. Tara is dead and Gemma argues that she had it coming for making the deal with the DA. Eli informs her that not Tara but Jax made the deal and when he tries to call in Tara's death Juice shoots and kills him.
Gemma leaves and Juice gets rid of the gun and the carving fork.
After saying his teary goodbyes Jax is heading home to spend a few more minutes with Tara before getting arrested. "Babe," he calls her but nobody answers. He finds Eli laying on the floor and pulls out his gun when he sees his dead wife on the floor as well. He drops his gun, scoops Tara into his arms and breaks down in tears, sitting in the blood on the kitchen floor.
Just then the DA walks in, takes one look around, sees two dead bodies and a gun on the floor and by the look of her eyes she assumes that Jax is the killer.
Unfortunately for fans this is how the "Sons of Anarchy" season 6 finale ended. What will happen next will have to wait until 2014, which is a long time for speculating fans and maybe even longer for "Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter to develop even more twisted plots for season 7, which will be the final season of "Sons of Anarchy".
Will Jax really go to jail? What will happen the boys? Can he forgive Gemma? Will Wendy be the guardian for Tara's kids?
Whose side are you on? Team Gemma or Team Tara?
