Louisiana bluesman Sonny Landreth is one of the true innovators in slide guitar playing. Eric Clapton was once quoted as saying:
Sonny Landreth is probably the most underestimated musician on the planet and also probably one of the most advanced. [Big Red Dog Music]
Clapton ought to know, he recorded with Landreth, Vince Gill, Mark Knopfler, Eric Johnson, and Robben Ford on Landreth's Grammy-nominated 2008 album From the Reach. Landreth followed up that album with last year's instrumental Elemental Journey, which featured guest performances by Joe Satriani and Eric Johnson. On top of his eleven studio albums, Sonny Landreth has made guest appearances on albums by Jimmy Buffett, John Hiatt, Eric Johnson, Buckwheat Zydeco, Mark Knopfler, Gov't Mule, Little Feat, and others.
Sonny Landreth is one of the more unique guitar players around. His slide and fret work is otherworldly, and something every fan of the blues should witness. Check out Landreth in action in the video above.
