Barbecue has long been serious business in North Texas, and Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse has teamed up with four local celebrity chefs to make their famous barbecue sauce serious business for several local charities. On Saturday, April 5, Dean Fearing, Dexter Samuel, Kent Rathbun, and Tre Wilcox will square off in a charity cooking competition, each using Sonny Bryan's sauce in their creation. Barbecue fans can purchase a ticket in advance or at the event for $20, sample each of the four creations, and vote for their favorite by dropping their ticket in one of four ballot boxes. Each ticket dropped will count as a $20 donation for The American Heart Association, March of Dimes, North Texas Food Bank, or Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, although the name of the charity chosen by each chef will not be revealed until after the competition is over. The chef who receives the most tickets will receive an additional $5,000 toward their chosen charity.
N.B. The American Heart Association has been replaced by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas (3/27).
The event will be hosted by Clarice Tinsley from FOX 4 News, and will also feature live music and Sonny Bryan's famous barbecue and select local microbrews available for purchase. The competition will be held at South Side on Lamar from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance by visiting Sonny Bryan's website, or at the door.
