While the Sonic Sound Off competition allowed an opportunity for electric bands to compete for a host of prizes, acoustic artists were also given the chance to perform at the Burbank International Film Festival.
Hosted by Oracle Post, 15 acoustic acts got their own chance to shine for the attendees of the Festival, especially for those attending the technical seminars.
With sound and PA equipment provided by the amazing Frank Beasley, each act sounded incredible. Although the audience was not as large as expected, everyone who attended went away with the music in their hearts and new favorites for their iPods.
The first artist to take the stage was Neara Russell, who turned in a great performance on piano. Russell's sweet vocals were a perfect match for her keys, as she played primarily to fellow musicians. That didn't dampen her spirts and she laid out her heart and soul in her songs.
She was followed by NYC native Laura MacLean, performing on both guitar and piano, accompanied by the amazing Adrienne Woods on cello. MacLean turned in a great performance, which resulted in her getting an endorsement from The Diva Shop.
Next up was Stefani Scovolo, host of several songwriter rounds in Los Angeles. Performing on piano, she was accompanied by a great cello player and a background vocalist. Her prolific Texas twang came out in her stage banter, and her songs were well received and well written.
The fourth performer was a product of England, although now residing in northern California. Tony Alderman is an amazing guitar player with a smoothing voice. His songs were well written and delivered in a way that made you want to hear them over and over again.
He was followed by Orange County resident Justin Soileau, fresh from his recent run at the OC Music Awards. Using Alderman's guitar, Soileau showed that his selection for the OC Music Awards was not a fluke, as he amazed everyone who heard him.
Next up was Los Angeles local artist Paulina Logan. Logan has had huge success in placing her songs in television and film, and proved it with a stellar performance
Our final performer for part 1 of this recap was the electic sounds of Early Dolphin. Reminiscent of many of the 60's folk bands, ED spread their mellow sounds to the universe.
We'll be back soon with part 2 of this recap. Until then, remember to always support live indie music.
