AVENTURA – They showed the world that life is a cabaret, Chicago has all that jazz and if you can make it in New York, New York you can make it anywhere. How Lucky Can We Get? The Songs of Kander and Ebb marks the triumphant return of the Melodies & Memories Series to the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center from Wednesday, December 14, 2011 through Sunday, December 18, 2011.
Winners of Academy, Emmy and Oscar Awards, John Kander and Fred Ebb were recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Kennedy Center Honors for their stage works that include the Broadway blockbusters Cabaret, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Zorba, Chicago, Woman of the Year and, produced following Ebb’s death, Curtains and The Scottsboro Boys.
In the Washington Post, David Richards wrote "Their signature tunes -'Cabaret,' 'New York, New York,' 'How Lucky Can You Get,' 'Maybe This Time,' 'All That Jazz,' -- are big, brassy, upbeat numbers, usually about going out into the world and grabbing a piece of the action before it's too late. Kander and Ebb are arguably Broadway's foremost advocates of the power of positive songwriting."
Produced by Mazel Musicals, Inc. and the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, the Melodies & Memories Series are spirited celebrations of America’s greatest songs from Tin Pan Alley, Broadway and Hollywood. Now in its second year, productions in the series are conceived and directed by Barry Levitt, former Artistic Director of New York's 92nd Street Y’s smash Lyrics and Lyricists Series.
The series continues with The Song Is You: The Songs of Jerome Kern (Jan. 18-22); At Last: The Songs of Harry Warren (Feb. 8-12); and Thanks for the Memories: the Music of the Paramount Pictures Era (March 7-11).
