Another Presidents' Day is upon us and I thought a fitting way to observe the day is with a musical salute. These songs span the spectrum from presidents who did great things to one president who is largely forgotten.
- "Abraham Lincoln" by Clutch -Unfortunately one way to become the subject of a song is to get assassinated.
- "James K. Polk" by They Might Be Giants - This song is not only fun but very educational. Seriously, you'll probably learn more about Polk from this song than you ever did in history class.
- "Mr. Garfield" by Johnny Cash - Again, the whole assassination thing.
- "The President's Penis is Missing" by Drive-By Truckers - This is the Drive-By Truckers' response to the whole Clinton sex scandal.
- "California Pipeline" by Murphy's Law - This hardcore band takes a less than favorable stance on Ronald Reagan.
- "Eisenhower Blues" by JB Lenoir - People have been saying it for a long time: The President's "taking all my money to pay the tax."
- "Let's Impeach the President" by Neil Young - Neil Young's scathing indictment of George Bush the younger.
- "Idiot Son of an A**hole" by NOFX - This is even less subtle than Neil Young's swipe at George Bush the younger.
- "William Howard Taft" by Two Man Gentleman Band - It's about Taft and it includes kazoos. What more do you need to know?
- "Presidents Song" by Yakko, Wakko, and Dot Warner - It's funny and it's a very brief history of the presidency sung by three cartoon characters.
