Detroit resident Vincent Bright, 48, who was accused in January of stealing his father’s remains from Gethsemane Cemetery in Detroit with the hopes of resurrecting the corpse through prayer, was sentenced on Sept. 23 to probation, “and ordered to take medicine for mental health problems.”
Bright pleaded guilty to disinterment of a body back in August.
USA Today reported that the ardent son received a total of 18 months of probation which includes a credit of 225 days for time already served.
And don’t forget to take your meds.
"You have to prove to the probation officer that you're taking the medication.
If you don't do that, then I got to lock you up, and I don't want to do that," said Wayne County Circuit Judge James Chylinski.
Bright seems to have gotten on the good side of prosecutors in the case, who recommended his mental health treatment to the court.
During the course of their initial investigation, police in Detroit discovered the 93-year-old father’s corpse stuffed inside a freezer in his son’s basement.
Gerald Karafa, Vincent Bright’s lawyer appointed by the court, said in January that “it's an unusual case, it's not something you see every day.”
And now:
"He's doing fine," Karafa said. "He's on his medication."
