A designer with a celebrity following and an expert at her craft is Son Jung Wan. As Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2014 got into full swing, Wan captivated her fans with a collection of class and sophistication, a superb way to head into the Spring/Summer 2014 season.
Wan has previously been named “Designer of the Year” by Seoul Metropolitan in 2005. The fabrics of her collections speak for themselves with a richness that talk with touch against the figure. Her passion doesn’t just stop at fashion. Son Jung Wan is also an avid art collector and traveler, philanthropist and wife and mother. She seems to have no difficulty balancing all that with a busy schedule and perhaps that is why her large customer base can so easily relate to her.
This latest collection was called “…AWAY”. Wan took us to Casablanca, a city of intense intrigue and another city, the fatally attractive Marrakech and the city for healing broken hearts called Essaouira, and lastly, Fez, a complicated maze of a city. The collection mixes the dreamy attraction and splendid color of each city in true Moroccan style with an infinite amount of energy.
It isn’t all about brilliant color. It is time for change with whites and neutral colors such as tan and blush, taking over the runway with a stunning presence. But we all need that dash of color and Wan delivered with amber, burnt oranges and just a slight hint of sun-drenched Sahara Desert inspired prints.
There were many standout pieces that delighted the crowd and critics alike. A white sheath dress with French darts and a deep black V-cut and a citron jacquard cocoon dress with side cutouts were exquisite show-stoppers.
Daytime wear and plenty of color-blocking give you that sense of pride to take on the world in style. But when it comes to the end of the day, Son Jung Wan gave us eveningwear that is beyond beautiful. Shiny and sequined, the clothing takes you on a wild ride with a personality of its own. We saw a coral sequin mini-dress with open weave leather hem, gold short-sleeved jacket with gold sequined skirt and a peach chiffon dress with metal bead detail.
This was one of those fashion presentations that you simply did not want to end. Cameras were flashing as front row became occupied by actresses Kelly Rutherford and Toni Trucks as well as celebrity stylist, June Ambrose.
Son Jung Wan ‘s style swept us “……AWAY” once again.
