I recently had to call a candidate to say that we were not moving forward with her candidacy for a job. Before I was able to complete my message, she began speaking loudly and defensively, and pretty much hung up on me. While I know how frustrating it is to be a job seeker, please don't ever do that! Over the past few months, I've gone back into my candidate database to find people who might fit our current growth needs. 12-18 months ago when many of our candidates had applied, the company was in a bad patch and things in our business climate changed. Okay, sometimes the candidate will never be a fit for a variety of reasons, that's true - but many will still be considered for hire if the right role shows up. So now, 12-18 months later, these folks may get another chance to get the job they want - because they didn't hang up on me and remained very professional. I've had the privilege of making job offers to folks who entered our recruiting process more than a year after the first contact. The world is smaller than ever and it's amazing how our behavior and work ethic gets around. Give your best at all times!
