Something to do this January weekend (Photos)

A number of you out there might be feeling a bit stir crazy from being stuck indoors due to the cold, rainy, or just plain dreary weather this past couple of weeks. Thankfully, the weather this weekend (Jan. 12-13) should be much more accommodating for outdoor activities and exercise.

Some cost efficient and fun outings to indulge in that will get you outside are to visit a park or walk a trail. It’s also a great idea to take a walk throughout the Botanical Gardens or even Jambbas Ranch.

Local parks to check out are Lake Rim Park, at 2214 Tar Kiln Drive and also Honeycutt Park, at 352 Devers Street. Lake Rim Park has playgrounds for kids of different ages to play on, an educational nature trail, along with sports fields and a picnic area.

Honeycutt Park has a small paved walkway that surrounds the playground so you can watch you kids while also getting exercise. It is located near many sports fields so the children can run about to their hearts content.

If you desire to go to a park on Fort Bragg, the best one around is Wilson Park (off Butner Road). It is a positively lovely environment that has a beautiful lake along with a diverse recreational area that kids of all ages can play on. Once the kids are physically exhausted from swing, sliding, and all around playing for hours, the family can get together to have a picnic by the lake or at the provided benches.

If you prefer some physical exercise for yourself, then you can choose to walk the trail around Hope Mills Public Library, at 3411 Golfview Road. Just park your vehicle in the library parking lot and enjoy a nice pace along a paved path.

Then you can take a break and let the kids play on the playground or on the different game fields. Everything is in one compact area to allow parents to relax or exercise. It’s a win-win scenario.

If you just want to go for a walk with the family, then go to Clark Park Nature Center located at 631 Sherman Drive. The trail goes for 8 miles total and has restrooms and water stations along the way along. You can walk, run, ride a bike, and walk your dog and more on this gorgeous nature trail.

For a more scenic adventure, than go to the Cape Fear Botanical Gardens. Or better yet feed adorable and diverse animals at Jambbas Ranch. At either location you are guaranteed a good time.

No matter what activity your family decides to partake in just be sure to enjoy each others’ company. Make some memories together. If you can, try to get a snapshot to help remember these precious moments in life.
