Something to do on a single budget

As if being the sole provider for your child wasn't enough now everything that you want to do with your child cost an arm and a leg which really sways your activity plans. Well, this is where this single mom of 5 steps in. Many museums offer free nights whether it be the 3rd Tuesday of the month or every Thursday night. Yep, you read that right. So do you want to keep your head out of the sand long enough to see what I am talking about?

First we have San Antonio Children's Museum. On every 3rd Tuesday of the month from 5 pm to 7 pm, they have H-E-B Free Family Night which also coincides with the City of San Antonio's free parking after 5:00 pm initiative. I mean this is a total score because normally the museum only validates 1 hour of parking and I do not know about your kiddos, but mine can run a muck for hours in that place.

Second, we have the Wittie Museum. Every Tuesday from 3 pm until 8 pm you can get into the exhibits that are in the main building, the Witte Backyard and the H-E-B Science Treehouse, but note that some of the special exhibits may have a fee or surcharge that you will have to pay for. Parking is free and the line can get long, so make sure you get there as early as possible.

Third, we have the McNay Art Museum. Every Thursday from 4 pm to 9 pm and on AT&T First Sundays of the Month, entrance to the Main Collection Galleries is FREE. During FREE times, an admission charge of $5 applies only for entrance to Real/Surreal. Parking is free and the grounds are just gorgeous, so pack a picnic is you can and eat on the lawns of the property.

Lastly, we have San Antonio Museum of Art. On Tuesday from 4 pm to 9 pm and Sundays from 10 am to 12 pm, you can get into the museum for free. There is a large parking lot that directly faces the Museum's entrance and parking is free with SAMA admission.

So there you have it. A brief overview of just some, and I mean some, of the free things that you can do with your child(ren) that will not cost you anything but the gas or bus ride to get there. In my later posts, I will be going more into detail of each of the above museums, so you can get a better idea of what each one has to offer.

Until then,

Always Susan
