MTK Tavern takes the feel of a neighborhood pub and combines it with style, innovative drink recipes, and a unique menu. MTK has something for everyone – whether you love craft beer, drink organic spirits, are vegetarian, or love a good burger, you will find what you are looking for.
MTK Tavern carries an evolving selection of craft beer on tap and in bottles. In addition to mainstays like Yeungling and Magic Hat #9, one can find selections from breweries such as Ommegang, Spiderbite, Brooklyn, Left Hand, or Lagunitas. One line is used for limited-edition releases, which rotates monthly, and currently features Brooklyn Reserve. Draft beer is served in mason jars with handles, which enhances the cozy atmosphere. In bottles, MTK Tavern offers Captain Lawrence IPA, Modelo, Session Lager and Black, Crispin Cider and Angry Orchard, Coors Light and Coors Non-Alcoholic. Jeff, owner of MTK Tavern, describes a subjective process of choosing which beers to serve – the staff finds out which kinds of craft beer may not be readily available in the area, tries them, and serves the ones the like the best. MTK Tavern is the beer geek’s destination when your mouth is watering for something new and different. From stouts to IPAs to lagers, this place has a beer for every palate.
MTK’s mixologists, Christina and Darby, are always busy coming up with new and interesting concoctions. Many of their drinks put a modern twist on classic cocktails such as the margarita, martini, and sidecar. By using fresh juices and ingredients, seasonal items, and experimenting with muddling different ingredients together, they are able to create new and exciting combinations. Some of their most popular drinks are the Metropolitan (Rain Organic vodka, triple sec, fresh lemon and lime juice, and hibiscus tea), the Dark and Stormy (Gosling’s rum, fresh lime juice, and ginger beer), and the Tequila Whisper (strawberry-infused Espolon Blanco tequila, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, rose water, and prosecco). MTK also carries over fifty types of tequila, including Casamigos, Don Julio, Hornitos, Tres Generaciones, and El Mayor. For vodka drinkers, MTK offers Three Olives, which contains natural fruit flavors as opposed to manufactured ones; Primo, which is infused with flavors from the malbec grape; and a selection of organic vodkas such as Rain, Harvest, and Tito’s. Gin drinkers should definitely try Big Gin – MTK carries both the original Big Gin as well as Bourbon Barreled Big Gin, which is aged for six months in Kentucky bourbon barrels.
MTK is the perfect place to go drinks with co-workers, a date with that special someone, or dinner with the family. There is live music four times a week, often featuring local musicians. Happy Hour is Tuesdays through Fridays from four to seven o’clock, with four dollar beer and three dollars off wine and drinks. For ten dollars, one can become a member of the Thursday Supper Club, which entitles the member to fifteen percent off food and drinks on Thursdays.
