The right-handed Gold smoked a 300 in her first of three games, then rolled another 300 in her next game.
For perspective, local legend Bob Englehart acknowledged that he had never achieved back-to-back 300 games despite racking up 30 perfect games.
Perhaps Kelly Kulick offered the best perspective on Gold’s performance.
Kulick is a good authority on outstanding achivements because she is the only woman to win a national title on the male-dominated Professional Bowlers Assn. Tour. That milestone occurred in 2010 when Kulick prevailed in the PBA’s signature event – the Tournament of Champions.
Said Kulick about Gold’s back-to-back perfect games: “If you get 24 strikes in a row, it’s like hitting three home runs in baseball.”
For the record, Gold added a 25th straight strike in the first frame of her third game before settling for a 161 score and a sizzling 761 series.
