Some movers begin issuing 2011 booking restrictions

Glance at the calendar and you'll notice that peak moving season is quickly approaching.

May is typically the month when trees blossom, buds open, and flowers and ‘For Sale’ signs spring up in front of homes in neighborhoods and communities all across the country.

Historically, it's also the time that approximately 35 million Americans begin making plans to pack up their stuff and move it somewhere…somehow! Most families try to schedule their relocation plans for the period between May and August when the kids are out of school.

This week, however, several of the largest interstate van lines announced booking restrictions by implementing registration cut-offs and/or pricing increases. The earliest begins in mid-May.

Responsible managers within the full-service moving industry historically announce these self-imposed tonnage embargoes to their agency networks, sales associates, and loyal repeat customers when they begin to notice a rapid build-up of new business in certain geographic areas within their own local or long distance moving company, national van line system, or affiliated independent moving and storage network.
