The USDA has announced that the Hot Pockets ® Philly Steak & Cheese sandwich may contain meat from “diseased and unsound animals,” according to a Feb. 18, 2014 Gawker report.

CBS Baltimore reports the USDA announced a recall of Rancho Feeding Corporation meat products because “they were produced without all required inspections.”

According to Gawker, the USDA recall indicated that the company “processed diseased and unsound animals and carried out these activities without the benefit or full benefit of federal inspection.”

Giant Supermarket and Nestle have recalled a “limited amount” of Hot Pockets after discovering the issue.

NBC News reports the USDA announced the Rancho items went to at least 974 vendors in California, and to a number of outlets in Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oregon and Washington.
