The process through which individuals can eliminate or reduce age spots, scars, freckles, port wine stains and other skin discolorations is defined as skin whitening. In reality, the skin doesn’t whiten, but people simply achieve an even complexion when the products they use bleach those areas of the skin that are hyper-pigmented. There are different names used for products that whiten the skin such as skin lighteners, bleaching creams and fade creams. Nevertheless, the same function is performed by these creams and the only difference is in their ingredients. Some of these products contain chemicals while some also comprise of natural ingredients. The safest and cheapest alternative is to use natural techniques for whitening the skin.

Lemon Juice

For a long time, people have used lemon juice as a folk remedy for dealing with freckles and age spots. This home skin whitening solution can be made at home so people are assured that it’s safe and completely natural. Lemons comprise of citric acid, which is mild in nature and can be useful for exfoliating the skin and removing the top skin layer called the epidermis. In this way, lemon juice is able to remove excess dirt and oil and also dead skin cells, which makes it easy for it to penetrate the skin and even out the discolored areas.

Once the surface of the epidermis has been removed, it will give skin the opportunity of renewing itself quickly. The new skin will be less discolored when it reaches the skin. People can either purchase a bottle of lemon juice or squeeze a lemon at home. A cotton ball should be used for applying the lemon juice to the areas that are hyper-pigmented. Application few times a day is recommended and the results will be seen in a couple of weeks.

Hydrogen Peroxide

A popular bleaching substance that’s used by people is hydrogen peroxide. This is a major ingredient in numerous teeth whitening products and hair coloring kits. There are numerous uses of hydrogen peroxide like using it as a disinfectant so a bottle of peroxide is usually found in most homes. A dark colored bottle is used for keeping hydrogen peroxide because the potency of this ingredient is lessened because of artificial light or even sunlight. A small amount of peroxide should be applied to the areas of the skin that are discolored with the help of a cotton ball. It should be applied a few times daily just like lemon juice.

Skin can be lightened and discolored areas can be faded with the use of buttermilk. It contains lactic acid, which works in a way similar to citric acid. The epidermis is exfoliated with the help of lactic acid and the age spots and scars can fade in this way. It is possible to use buttermilk as a facial when it is applied to the skin. It should be applied for about 10 to 15 minutes and rinsed off with warm water. It should be used at least two times a week for skin whitening.
