  • Sept. 17, 1999:  U.S. Postal Service issues a stamp honoring the Beatles. The group was one of several stamps issued on events of the '60s as the result of a public vote that took place the previous year. Other stamp subjects voted in included Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech, "Star Trek," Woodstock, the peace symbol, the Peace Corps, man walking on the moon and Roger Maris breaking baseball's home run record.
