Beatles and Beatle-related events on May 2:
- May 2, 1966: Bob Dylan, in London on tour, meets Paul McCartney, along with Rolling Stones Brian Jones and Keith Richards. Dylan was a big fan of the Beatles. He told Rolling Stone in 1977, "They were fantastic singers. Lennon, to this day, it’s hard to find a better singer than Lennon was, or than McCartney was and still is." And about his friend George Harrison, he said, "George had an uncanny ability to just play chords that didn't seem to be connected in any kind of way and come up with a melody and a song." He also said he thought Harrison could have made it on his own with his talent. "He'd have have been probably as big as anybody," he said.
- May 2, 1961: The Beatles engagement at the Top Ten Club in Hamburg continues.
- May 2, 1962: The Beatles' Star-Club engagement continues.
- May 2, 1963: A photo of Jane Asher screaming adoringly at the Beatles is published in Radio Times.
- May 2, 1964: The Beatles go on holiday. John, George, Patti and Cynthia go to Tahiti and Hawaii. Paul, Ringo, Maureen and Jane go to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, making several stops along the way to escape the press and not arriving there until May 3.
- May 2,1964: "Can't Buy Me Love" is #1 in the U.S. for the fifth and final week.
- May 2, 1964: "The Beatles Second Album" hits the top of the U.S. charts.
- May 2, 1966: Interviews with the BBC's Brian Matthews for two BBC shows: the 400th edition of "Saturday Club" and "Pop Profile."
- May 2, 1967: Trumpets are added to "Magical Mystery Tour."
- May 2, 1969: John and Yoko are interviewed for the BBC.
- May 2, 1969: At EMI, the Beatles record 36 basic tracks of "Something."
- May 2, 1977: "The Beatles: Live at the Star-Club in Hamburg, Germany 1962" is released on Lingasong Records.
- May 2, 1988: George Harrison's "This Is Love"/"Breath Away From Heaven" single released in U.S.
