  • June 3, 1964: Ringo Starr collapses from exhaustion and is hospitalized. Drummer Jimmy Nichol fills in for the upcoming tour dates.

  • June 3, 1929: Poet Allen Ginsberg born. Ginsberg and Paul McCartney recorded a song together, "Ballad of the Skeletons." (See a YouTube video with a rare live performance with Paul playing guitar as Ginsberg recites the song. Note: Adult language advisory.) John Lennon and George Harrison attended Ginsberg's 39th birthday party in 1965. When they got there, they found Ginsberg naked. "You don't do that in front of the birds," John is reported to have said. 
  • June 3, 1946: Ian Hunter, a member of the seventh edition of Ringo Starr and the All-Starr Band in 2001, born. 
  • June 3, 1963: Del Shannon releases a cover of the Beatles' "From Me To You" on a single shortly after the Beatles release theirs. (See video at left to hear it.) He was at one time rumored to be joining the Traveling Wilburys to fill the spot left by the death of Roy Orbison, but it wasn't to be. He committed suicide in 1990. In 1991, a stunning posthumous album called "Rock On!", produced by Jeff Lynne and featuring Tom Petty, that included the very Wilburys-sounding "Walk Away," (video link) was released. 
  • June 3, 1963: The Beatles perform at the Granada in Woolrich. 
  • June 3, 1964: The Rolling Stones make their American debut on "The Hollywood Palace," hosted by Dean Martin, whose introduction of them is filled with snide jokes.
  • June 3, 1966: The "butcher cover" photo is used in an ad in New Musical Express for "Paperback Writer."
  •  June 3, 1966:Tabloid newspapers react to the Beatles' butcher cover photo. 
  • June 3, 1966: Final overdubs on "I Want To Tell You" and mono mixes on "Yellow Submarine."
  • June 3, 1967: The "Sgt. Pepper" album enters the Melody Maker chart at no. 1. It will remain there for 22 weeks.
