Somdev Devvarman loses to Rafael Nadal in the ATP Open, highlights

Indian tennis player Somdev Devvarman gave a tough fight before losing to Spanish player Rafael Nadal in the ATP BNP Paribas Open in the USA during an exciting Indian-Spaniard match at the quarter-finals on March 17, 2011. Click to watch highlights video.

Despite Somdev going down to 5-7, 4-6, the 26 year-old made sure that Rafael clenched his teeth hard to earn the match. Somdev, known for his long lasting matches, had given tough competition in the match that lasted almost two hours.

The opening set with Nadal was locked at 5-5, which signaled the Spaniard that it won't be an easy win. The 26 year-old Indian managed to bag a crucial break point in the 11th game, which was his second of the set.

But in the very next game, Nadal's experience came to his rescue by sealing the set in his favor, which lasted for more than an hour.

Somdev hails from a small state of Tripura in India. His passion for tennis erupted at the age of 9, when he started practicing in Chennai.
