According to the Sochi 2014 website, two Canadians finished in the top ten of the men's 15km mass start biathlon competition on Tuesday.

Brendan Green of Hay River, Northwest Territories had an excellent ninth place finish with a time of 43:38.3, while Jean-Philippe Le Guellec of Kingston, Ontario finished tenth with a time of 43:41.6.

Emil Hegle Svendsen of Norway meanwhile beat Martin Fourcade of France for the gold medal in a photo finish. Svendsen and Fourcade each had a time of 42:29.1. Ondrej Moravec of the Czech Republic posted a time of 42:42.9 to win the bronze medal.

Canada does not have a rich history in men's biathlon at the Olympic Winter Games. The performances of Le Guellec and Green in the mass start and Le Guellec and Nathan Smith (a fifth and 13th position respectively) should be something for the Canadian biathlon program to build on for the future.
