Concert Two features high artistic quality of ensemble performing some of classical music’s most beloved music
Following on the heels of a great 2012 season opening concert with pianist Lindsay Garritson, the Atlantic Classical Orchestra (ACO) continues its 2012 season with a concert full of romanticism and spirit.
The performance opens with Mendelssohn’s enthusiastic, story-like Overture to A Midsummer Night's Dream – a piece that has been regarded as “the greatest marvel of early maturity that the world has ever seen in music.” Felix Mendelssohn wrote the Overture in 1826, at the beginning of his career when he was only 17 years old.
This concert also features the moving and emotional American masterpiece, Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber and Robert Schumann’s rarely performed but equally loved, Overture Scherzo and Finale. The concert concludes with Beethoven’s elegant Symphony No. 4.
By performing some of the most beloved classical works, this concert highlights the high artistic caliber of the Atlantic Classical Orchestra. This professional orchestra, led by Grammy-nominated artistic director and conductor Stewart Robertson comprises alumni from the world’s top music institutions. Stewart’s international artistic reputation attracts top musicians from as far away as Chicago, Hartford and South America. As a result of its commitment to high artistic excellence, the Atlantic Classical Orchestra will record its first commercial compact disc on the Artek Record Label with world-renown violinist, Elmar Oliveira.
