A Fort Carson soldier has been arrested for felony child abuse after his four-month-old son was hospitalized with second degree burns.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, detectives from the department's Special Victims Section began investigating the crime on Monday, after receiving a report that the infant was in the hospital. The detectives developed probable cause and arrested the father, 23-year-old Skyler Hamilton for felony child abuse.

The Colorado Springs Gazette reported that Hamilton, a soldier at Fort Carson who has served more than five years of active duty and has been deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq, was jailed after the baby was taken first to Memorial Hospital and later to Children's Hospital in Denver. The baby suffered burns on ten percent of his body, the Gazette reported, and police are saying those burns were caused by scalding water.
