Americans have it good when it comes to sugary treats. We can go to any grocery store, gas station, or really anywhere and get our favorite candies. Sometimes its really too easy for us, but we can use this for our advantage.
You see, this unbelievably easy process for us to get a pack of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups is not so easy in the United Kingdom. Matter of fact, only a few select stores are even allowed to carry such candy. This is true for a lot of American foods and products that you may not even know of. Here is a list:
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
M & M’s
And much more
So how can we take advantage of this? There are two things you can do. eBay has dedicated websites for other countries. Obvousily eBays website for the US is eBay.com, but for the UK its ebay.co.uk/. This is important to know, but not critical. You don’t have to sell directly on their website, you can utilize a small tool that is offered when you create your listing. I’ll show you more on that in a minute. Lets take a look at some completed listings:
What are some differences you notice when you look at these auctions? There are two major differences. One is the price – its in pounds instead of US dollars. Second is grams instead of .oz or pounds. These are important to know when creating your listing. Take the M&M’s for example, if you would have put 12 .oz instead of 360 g, the buyer may have looked over your listing. You need to make it as easy as possible!
Figuring out the right price may be difficult at first, but of course there is a tool out there to help you along the way. I use Yahoo’s currency converter found HERE. The British Pound is worth more than the US dollar, so it’s important that you are listing your item with the understanding of the current value on eBay’s UK website.
So here is the eBay tool that will make it easy for you. When you are creating a listing on the eBay.com site (USA eBay), you will be offered a paid upgrade that says “Maximize Your Listings Visibility, International Site Visibility.” This feature costs a mere $.50, but it does all of the converting for you, and puts you on top of the search lists in the UK eBay site.
The last part of this equation is shipping. How do you ship chcoloate around the world with out it melting? Here is a nice eHow article to help HERE. I do not do number 3 or 6, and I have never had a problem.
Do not take for granted all of the Americanized items that we can easily get, and Share The Love!
