Fashion enthusiasts anxiously waited outside the EXDO Event Center with bags filled with once loved clothes. Once the guests were inside and out of the cold, they dropped off their clothes and entered into the main room and were greeted by a huge runway and beautiful chandeliers. Welcome to the second annual Good Exchange for Change Fashion Show.
While guests were sipping on cocktails and nibbling on hors d’oeuvres, they were able to bid on an original outfit created by Mondo Guerra, as seen on Project Runway Season 8, All Stars, and a Denver designer. Project Runway alumni and local designers Fallene Wells and Julie Tierney created high fashion, one of a kind looks from repurposed Goodwill clothing.
Once the guests were settled, they were able to get a sneak peek of some outfits from Deja Blue, a Goodwill boutique that will open March 17th in Cherry Creek North. Models from Wilhelmina Denver worked the catwalk with style and grace.
Each of the students from CEC Middle College in Denver and Denver School of Arts showcasing their creations were able to work with Mondo prior to the show. A video showed Mondo working with the students and giving advice. The students showcased everything from checkered shorts, cocktail dresses, men’s wear, flirty skirts, tailored jackets, and more. The students designed original pieces from Goodwill clothing and made each piece original and wearable.
The three Project Runway alumni were not only auctioning off designs for a good cause, they were the judges for the student fashion show. Once they came to a conclusion, they selected Uriel Moreno from CEC. He designed and modeled a wearable green sweater vest along with tailored shorts.
Once the judging of the student fashion show was complete, the crowd rushed to the Goodwill Exchange room. Each guest was asked to bring 10 gently used pieces of clothing and they were able to ‘exchange’ it with other guests. The room looked like a store with the racks of clothing and everyone was on the hunt for fabulous finds.
Overall, the night was a success; not only for the student winner Uriel Moreno, but also for everyone who participated in helping Goodwill. All proceeds of the event went to Goodwill Community Programs that will help many people in Colorado.
