Back by popular demand, the 2009 Winner of the New York Independent International Film and Video Festival for Best Alternative Lifestyle Documentary is showing for a week from Friday through Thursday, Feb. 19-25, at the Tropic Cinema in Key West.
“Audience with the Queens” is a documentary revealing the fabulous world of accomplished drag queens in Key West. A fascinating subject with some very talented performers, all the filming took place in Key West.
When “Audience with the Queens” was shown in November at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, it brought down the house with cheering and applause, said Robbie Hopcraft, producer and director with Key West Unplugged, his film company.
The documentary film series explores who a drag queen really is, said Hopcraft. “It gives a true sense of
personality and a look into the more human and emotional side of these talented and diverse drag queen performers.”
The film stars Sushi, the most talented and famous drag queen of Key West, known as the “Drag Mother” for this group of queens. A talented fashion designer who creates many of the costumes worn by her and the other drag queens, Sushi has long beautiful legs and a body most real women would die for.
Other productions by Hopcraft and company are the Homemade Bikini Contest filmed at the Hog’s Breath Saloon and The Living Arts Body Painting Event at the Ocean Key House.
