Build the soil for a healthier garden
Build the soil for a healthier garden

With a one foot of snow still on the ground, it's hard to imagine the soil, let along think about improving it. But that's what's important about this time of year. It's an opportunity to make a plan. The soil is the soul of your garden. Feed it well and the plants will grow strong and have fewer problems. Abuse it, and lose it!

More and more gardeners are realizing the beneifts of healthy soil and continue to build soil organinc matter by adding leaves, untreated grass clippings, hay, straw, manures, and compost to their gardens. Growing a green manure crop is also a great way to build the tilth of your soil.
