Soil: Picture Perfect
Chicago sludge rockers Soil have released "Like It Is", the first single off their upcoming album Picture Perfect. The song can be streamed on the band's MySpace page. Picture Perfect, the follow-up to 2006's True Self and due on October 20th via Bieler Bros. Records, was produced by Grammy-nominated Johnny K (Disturbed, Staind) and Ulrich Wild (Deftones, Incubus). The new album is the first since guitarist Shaun Glass left the group, and although he hasn't been replaced the band's crushing sound hasn't suffered thanks to frontman AJ Cavalier helping out with six-string duties.
Founded in 1997, Soil's greatest success came with their sophomore album Scars in 2001 thanks to the singles "Halo" and "Unreal", the videos for which received significant airplay on MTV. True Self was a downturn for the band, as they adopted a more modern metal (aka metalcore) sound than their previous releases. Picture Perfect marks a return to the heavy, bottom-tuned sludgy Southern style Soil fans know and love. The band will soon be on tour with Kittie, but the trek unfortunately avoids Kentucky altogether.
