Softball scores 18, sweeps Aggies in series

The Fresno State softball team improved to 4-2 in league play after sweeping Utah State this weekend at home.

The Bulldogs traveled to Boise last week to open up conference play and ended that trip with just one win. That one win – a 24-4 five inning victory – came after a 3-2 loss in ten innings.

Upon returning home to host the Aggies, the Bulldogs allowed just three runs overall and scored 18.

Despite two significant victories in which the Bulldogs allowed no runs, the final game of the series went a bit differently.

Utah State got on the board first and led Fresno State until the fifth inning when the Bulldogs tied it up.

Another run in the seventh gave the Aggies the lead again but the Bulldogs tacked on two more to get the win.

"I loved our energy and fight [on Sunday]," head coach Trisha Ford told gobulldogs.com. "[Sunday’s] win didn't come as easily as earlier this weekend, but was equally important.

"We hit the ball hard early but didn't have a lot of luck until late in the game. We hung in there and it paid off. Jill (Compton) pitched well in relief, and it was good to see her pick up the team."

The Bulldogs hit the road for a non-conference game at Pacific followed by a three game series at New Mexico April 4.
