Disney announced on Tuesday (Nov 27) the official premiere date for 'Sofia The First' animated series. The series will premiere on on Friday, January 11 at 9:30 AM on Disney Channel and again at 5:30 PM on Disney Junior.
'Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess' is the series’ special tele-movie that premiered on November 18 on Disney Junior. The special grabbed an impressive 5.2 million total viewers and instantly became the top cable feature in 2012 for the coveted demographic of kids 2-5. It is impressive because the animated special broke previous record holder 2009's 'Phineas and Ferb Christmas Vacation!' by over 2 million viewers.
The series revolve around Princess Sofia, an ordinary girl who transforms into a princess overnight when her mom marries King Roland II of Enchancia. Sofia also gets two step-siblings, Amber and James, in the process. The series deal with how Princess Sofia adjust to royal life.
The series special featured voice performances by Ariel Winter, Sara Ramirez, Wayne Brady and Tim Gunn.
Based on the numbers, it looks like Disney has another franchise in its hands.
