Social networking takes over when local paper doesn't cover tragic accident.

On Saturday January 5th at 5:36 a.m. an accident was reported to 911 emergency

Accident with injuries at East County Road 450N and North State Road 9. That is all the local newspaper The Republic stated.

This is not the first time that intersection has been cursed with tragedy but even just a couple of years ago you could count on The Republic newspaper to cover the stories. But, there was no article and no coverage what so ever so no one knew exactly what happened.

That is until a message popped up on Facebook via Columbus Man at 10:30 Sunday night.

Please disregard the grammar I am typing it verbatim.

It started off like this:

A message to the crash victims - Columbus man im tyler hadley. the tyler hadley that was involved in the car wreck yesterday morning...im trying to get in touch with the two passengers in devans car to let their families know i am pulling and praying for them. i have done been in contact with devan and made sure he knew that no matter what happened i hold no grudges and i hope he recovers fast. i just want the other two boys families to know that me and my family are pulling and praying for their successful recovery. so would you please pass this on to them or have them get in contact with me. thank you very much.

This started a frenzy of questions and answers. it started off with a woman asking:

Is there any word on other victims, have not seen any posts...tyler we are so glad u are ok, prayin for others.

Followed by people praising Tyler for standing up and reaching out to the families involved in this tragic accident.

Shortly after this post went public, another comment was posted by someone who knows one of the families and it stated that they saw Trevin Colglazier one of the victims in the accident and he was in bad shape. She stated that he had a skull fracture and several staples, he has broken bones in his face and four fractured ribs. He has a chest tube and also fractured the C1 Vertebrae. He is in a lot of pain but awake and alert.

Shortly after this post, the mother of Michael Fraley posted this message:

I am Michael Fraley's mom!! My son is in bad bad shape...if he comes outta this he may never be the same due to severe brain trauma!! At 6 am this morning me and my husband woke up to Michaels nurse telling us we needed to be with him because he wasn't doing good...the brain swelling was not getting better only worse!!! Normal brain pressure is 5... Michael was at 64!!!! They started him on a new medication and to everyone's surprise the pressure dropped down to 14 and has been around that since! Not only does he have the brain trauma he also has a broken jaw in 3 places... a broken collar bone... a fractured sternum ...10 broken ribs and his spine is broken in 2 places!

I am not angry with anyone...I'm not blaming anyone!!! Accidents happen!! I just want my baby boy to be ok and to come home!!! I also would like to talk to someone... anyone who is downstairs with Trevin Colglazier!! The hospital will not give out any info to me.

The big question on everyone's mind right now is what happened? At this point in time no one knows exactly what happened but messages all over facebook are asking that exact question.

In the end it doesn't matter. The question still lingers in everyone's minds. Why was there nothing in our local paper? Why do we even have a local paper anymore if they can't even cover local stories?

Tell us what you think. If they can not even cover local stories, and with social media plus online publications, do we even need a local newspapers anymore?

Plus, let us pray for the families and the people involved in the tragic accident.
