A new infographic published Monday by Visual.ly examined data from 37 million social visits and provides an overview of the major social platforms driving most of the sales in social commerce.

The ten platforms taken into account for this particular analysis includes the following: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+, LinkedIn, Instagram, Reddit, Youtube, Vimeo, Vine, Hacker News, and Polyvore.
Pinterest has always come up in conversations and articles when measuring its success in with captured sales. However, in this particular situation, Facebook generates the majority of orders and thanks to its Instagram service they outperform the competition for the average order value. In addition, in specific industries where they attract 95 percent of all orders and the sales are are noticeable by a large margin are in Photography, Sports and Recreation, and Pet Supplies
“Here's some interesting data points we uncovered: Facebook dominates as a source of social traffic and sales. Nearly two thirds of all social media visits to Shopify stores come from Facebook. Plus, an average of 85% of all orders from social media come from Facebook. Orders from Reddit increased 152% in 2013,” according to the Infographic.
Looking at the timeline of Facebook, it was not a cinderella story when the first few retailers tried to migrate, set up their ecommerce like business services on Facebook. What backfired instantly was the approach, which was a harassing sales pitch towards users. What needed to change was to turn Facebook shopping experiences or stories into measurable social organic interactions.
Facebook has diversified its business and the company direction since going public has cemented a solid identity for social networking. Facebook in the third quarter of 2013 dwarfed all social networking services with an exponential growth that even the visual pin-board style website, Pinterest, could not impede.
